National Spirit of 45′ Day honors the men and women of the World War II generation.

Sixty-eight years ago, on August 14, 1945, President Harry Truman announced the end of World War II. Life magazine described this day as “a hinge of history…the birth of a new America.”

We observe National Spirit of ’45 Day on the second Sunday in August each to honor the 16 million inidividuals in uniform who stepped forward to defend America and its freedoms during WWII. We also take this day to honor the men and women who supported our brave service members during this time from the home front, and who tirelessly worked in the factories, farms and offices that supplied the resources needed to fight and win the war.

More than 400,000 young Americans bravely stepped forward to make the ultimate sacrifice in support of our country and never returned home.

Please take a moment today to honor the members of this great generation. Their legacy of service and national unity will never be forgotten.
