September is Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is a tragedy and suicide amongst veterans has been on the rise. The latest statistics provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that 22 vets commit suicideĀ every day. By one estimate, for every active military person killed by an enemy combatant, 25 vets commit suicide.
Additional resources and attention are being focused on this national tragedy. There is a website specifically for veterans in crisist. There is also a new public service announcement video released this month in honor of suicide prevention month.
If you or a veteran you know need support, please use these resources or contact one of the Vets Vehicles charities for assistance. Cars donated to Vets Vehicles supports a range of services for veterans, including suicide prevention.
